Another conspiracy theory becomes reality: Eindhoven turned into a 15-minute city

...

In March this year, Eindhoven City Council adopted the Mobility 2050 Master Plan, which sets out how mobility can contribute to the "major challenges" of our time, including climate change.
The master plan aims to make Eindhoven better connected, cleaner, healthier and safer, as the plan states.

From 1 January, Eindhoven will introduce a zero-emission zone and become a 15-minute city "where everything you need is right on your doorstep".The plan states: "We aim for a city where everything is nearby: Eindhoven as a 15-minute city where all daily amenities are within 15 minutes on foot or by bike."

All basic facilities such as family doctors, supermarkets and primary schools as well as meeting places and accommodation should be within walking distance within 15 minutes. Larger, less frequented facilities should be accessible within a quarter of an hour by bike.

NetZeroCities and climate neutrality
The plan emphasizes: "Transport will become more sustainable, healthier and take up less space." In the coming years, the municipality of Eindhoven will work specifically to strengthen the proximity of facilities and to promote walking and cycling.

Eindhoven aims to become one of the first climate-neutral cities in Europe by 2030. The city is part of the EU-funded NetZeroCities project, an initiative of the World Economic Forum that supports the transition to sustainable cities.
